Happy 65th Birthday, Dad!

So we had a little bit of a get away last week for my dad’s big 65th birthday – involved a trip to Windsor and also a little trip into London to see Sister Act at the Dominion Theatre.

I did do a couple of tik tok videos explaining what we got up to while we were there (my tik tok account is @larajevons for anyone who wants to have a look) but here’s a quick run down.

Tuesday we travelled from Stourbridge to Bracknell, which is just outside Windsor, and stayed in a lovely hotel called Stirrups Hotel. Very posh, stunning rooms (I had the biggest walk in shower EVER!) and fantastic breakfast the next morning too. They also had pods outside in the grounds that you could hire for celebrations and have food in them too. We also decided to go and watch Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire – now, I love the Ghostbusters films (obviously the originals will always be the best) but I thought this one was very good. It had more of a plot than the previous two and it was nice seeing the original cast and the new cast working together. Sort of opens the films out to a new generation as people will want to go back and watch the originals.

Then Wednesday, my dad’s actual birthday, we headed into London for a little bit of shopping and then went to see Sister Act. Might have been dad’s birthday but this was also partly my birthday treat for my 40th last December. The musical doesn’t really follow the film – the songs that you know are not in this; this is all new music composed by the fantastic Alan Menken (he did the music for Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin, amongst many others). Deloris is with Curtis trying to make her name as a professional singer and she witnesses a murder and ends up in the convent. She teaches the choir and ends up with them performing for the Pope. That in itself is the plot but there are no sub plots like in the film and obviously Vince is now called Curtis. I will say having Ruth Jones as Mother Superior, talking in a welsh accent and just randomly giving us a glimpse of Nessa in one scene was the best! Oh and maybe seeing Lesley Joseph (playing Sister Mary Lazarus) being taken up into the air on the end of a bell rope too! After that, we went for some fantastic food at Bella Italia before heading back.

Thursday was our last day and this was our day for visiting Windsor Castle. We timed it just right so that we got to see the changing of the guards – dad was like the cat who’d got the cream; he videoed that and was grinning from ear to ear. We went into the castle and walked round the grounds, we saw the doll house and went into the state apartments too. We then made our way to St. George’s Chapel and saw where The Queen and Prince Philip are buried – that was a little bit surreal and i suppose emotional too. We then grabbed a MASSIVE donut and got in the car and head back home.

That’s all for now guys – got some more stuff coming up soon! Next blog will have a little bit of a Disney feel to it 🙂
