Back To Black

So the newest Amy Winehouse bio pic was released on April 12th and I’ve finally got round to seeing it earlier on this evening.

Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, the film shows Amy’s volatile relationship with Blake; her drinking, the descent into becoming a drug addict, the fights…basically everything that we all saw in the newspapers; and how this led to her writing her album ‘Back To Black’.

There were plenty of emotional parts within the film which had me choked up. In some parts it makes me wonder if Amy had spoken up beforehand, maybe got away from Blake sooner, that she might still be here blessing us with her voice? 27 years old is no age to die for ANYONE!

Marisa Albesa, who plays Amy in this, did a fantastic job portraying Amy. I think what people were disappointed in was the fact that it was partly Marisa’s voice, as well as some overlays of Amy’s vocals, that were used in the film. We’ve seen other bio pics released that have had the original artists vocals used and the actor mime but that was what set this apart – Marisa, in her own right, is a fantastic singer and she rightly deserved her chance to shine in this.

Definitely a solid 8.5/10 from me. Don’t listen to what the critics have said, go and see it and make your own mind up. Personally I would say that it is worth it.
